I was given an interesting mental challenge ... ok, not specifically given, but someone else was talking about it and I thought, "wow, that is tough."

Choose your 10 favorite songs (at this time) and burn me a mix CD. I assume this is to gauge your listening "style," and to get to know you better. So, assuming I was going to be stuck somewhere a long time (desert island (with a CD player and power?), space station, cargo container going across the Atlantic, whatever), what 1 CD of 10 songs would I choose?

After thinking on this a while, here are mine:
  • Final Fantasy 7 / Nobuo Uematsu - One-Winged Angel
  • Squeeze - Tempted
  • Weird Al Yankovic - Everything You Know is Wrong
  • Aerosmith - Walk This Way (classic version, not the Run DMC version)
  • Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
  • Elvis Costello - Peace, Love, and Understanding
  • Jennifer Knapp -
  • Avril Lavigne - Skater Boi
  • Rush - Tom Sawyer
Wow, there are so many great artists, similar to those above, that didn't even make the list:
  • Chris Tomlin
  • Billy Joel
  • Yasunori Mitsuda (and other Video Game composers)
  • Crowded House / Split Enz
  • Elvis Presley
  • Randy Travis (and other country or "new country" artists)
  • Amy Jo Johnson (ok, kidding)
And, even when an artist is represented, it is really just representing a whole bunch of other songs (FF 7 - Aeris' Theme or Fighting; Weird Al - any of his parodies; Jennifer Knapp - other Christian artists like Chris Tomlin and Michael W Smith). And, look at what is NOT represented:
  • rap (although there are some songs that I like, the bulk do not appeal to me)
  • hip-hop (ditto)
  • ska (never really got into it)
  • jazz (love it some, like Branford Marsallis, but couldn't justify dropping another song)
  • classical (ditto)
  • etc., etc., etc.

So, what are yours? How well do these jive with what you would pick? And how do they define you?
